Belarusian Parliament to adopt 90 bills in furtherance of Constitution within two years

In the next two years, we should adopt 90 bills in furtherance of the Constitution, Chairman of the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko said at a meeting of the Council of the House of Representatives in Minsk on 26 April, BelTA has learned.

"Today we will consider the prospects of our legislative and international activities. First of all, this is our legislative work in furtherance of the updated Constitution. This work is already being carried out by members of the House of Representatives. Many MPs put forward legislative proposals. Work is also underway on the bills that have already been sent to the House of Representatives," Vladimir Andreichenko said.

The speaker recalled the recent meeting of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko with the justice minister and the deputy head of the President Administration to analyze the legislative work. "The task was set not only for the House of Representatives, the Council of the Republic. All state administration bodies were encouraged to actively join in the legislative activity. To ensure that this work is systemic, the heads of the two houses of the parliament, the prime minister, the head of the President Administration signed an action plan to bring the laws into line with the updated Constitution. Based on this plan, we have drawn up our own. We have put the commissions in charge of certain areas of work and set the deadlines," he said.

Vladimir Andreichenko stressed that the MPs will have a very hard job ahead of them. "We have about 90 bills to consider. This work must be completed during 2022-2023, within two years," he said. Some of the most significant bills should be adopted this year, namely on the Belarusian People's Congress, on the National Assembly, on the status of a member of the House of Representatives, a member of the Council of the Republic.

"In the next two years, we must complete this work. Elections to the House of Representatives will be held in February 2024. It will be a single voting day. I repeat, we must complete this work until 1 January 2024," the speaker added.
