UN Human Rights Council’s resolution on Belarus described as waste of time, money

Resolutions of the United Nations Human Rights Council concerning situations in specific countries stopped reflecting the real state of affairs with human rights in the world a long time ago. The decisions are used as a pretext for the collective West’s pressure and sanctions against the countries that resist the West’s diktat, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs after the UN Human Rights Council passed a resolution on Belarus.

The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs remarked that if the council had been able to objectively evaluate situations in countries, then practically all the Western countries would have gotten their own resolutions. The report on the most notorious violations of human rights in various countries the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs published on 30 June contains sufficient reasons for the UN Human Rights Council and other human rights structures to take a closer look at those countries.

The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: “As a full member of the United Nations Organization Belarus will continue working to enforce international oversight over the human rights situation in Western countries. As for another EU-sponsored resolution on Belarus, it is a waste of money and time. Belarus will never agree to recognize the minority’s biased and unfair opinion that has been virtually forced down the throat. The European Union has passed this document for its own sake. It has no relation to Belarus.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs pointed out that a majority of members of the UN Human Rights Council did not support the resolution: the number of those who voted against and those who abstained exceeds the number of countries that voted for the resolution.

“If the West truly cares about human rights, it should remember that international cooperation, including cooperation focusing on human rights, is based on the principle of respect for the sovereign equality of countries,” the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs added.
