From the memories of the partisan

Alexander Mikhailovich Valetov,  participant of the Great Patriotic War.

For reference: Alexander Mikhailovich Valetov was born in 1915 in the village of Starye Sany, Blagovirsky District, Bashkir Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. Military technician of the 2nd rank, tanker, participant of the Finnish war, fought on the T-34 tank. He served in the Red Army from 1939, in June 1942 he fought in a partisan detachment, was awarded the medal of the partisan of the Patriotic War, 1st degree.

“After so many years, it is difficult to recreate the events of the war in memory, but some episodes will never be forgotten. Here is one of them. My command and I decided to restore the armored vehicle, many of which were left at the beginning of the war in rivers and swamps. A specially created group consisting of Vasily Pishchilin, Spiridon Kuznetsov, Ivan Onufriev, Fyodor Anushkin and me found an armored car in Shchara covered in mud and silt. With the help of the local population, they pulled him ashore and brought him to the camp on horseback. In  10 days, the armored car was repaired. To run it, we needed gasoline, batteries, oil. All this had to be recaptured from the Germans. One or two ambush did not bring results. Time was running out as the Germans began to consolidate  garrison around the camp. Then they decided to start the engine of the armored car on turpentine, which the peasants who worked in the tar plant could get a lot. Our attempt was successful.

In early October 1942, the partisan brigade named after Lenin blocked the garrison in Ruda-Yavorskaya. The start of the battle was scheduled for 5 o'clock in the morning. At a certain time, we started the engine of an armored car, which had previously been brought here.

Vasily Pischulin took the place of the commander of the gun, the place of the machine gunner went to Fedya Anushkin, and I was in charge of the driver. We went to the center of the garrison, the Germans took us for their own and did not pay attention. I drove the car and clearly saw the location of all the pillboxes.

I drove up to one embrasure, and Pischilin fired a couple of shots at it with fragmentation shells. Then they did the same for the other one. At the same time, partisans opened fire from all sides.

Enemies were confused, began to run in a panic. Having defeated the firing points, we left the garrison, the partisans completed the rest. By the beginning of the autumn of 1942, we already had a second armored car and a tankette, gasoline and engine oil”.
